for Costly Drugs
If
you or your spouse is one of the 35 million Americans who don’t
have
health insurance, or if your family’s
health policy doesn’t cover prescription drugs, you may be able
to get free prescriptions. Dozens of major pharmaceutical companies
sponsor programs that provide drugs at no cost to eligible patients.
Requirements vary, but the prescriptions are generally available
to those who can’t afford a given drug, don’t carry private insurance,
and are not eligible for public assistance.

Some drug companies require that
the prescribing doctor complete a simple patient-eligibility form;
others merely ask for a letter from the
physician documenting the patient’s financial need. If you think
you may be eligible, ask your doctor how to apply.
